CalCenter’s Capitol Backyard Party

On October 4, 2026, the California Center for Civic Participation (CalCenter) is working to bring together over 500+ youth, community partners, and leaders at the State Capitol for our Backyard Party—an interactive day dedicated to activating our community, connecting joy with resistance, and normalizing civic engagement.

Backyards are where friends and family gather to build community and trust. Through this event, we aim to create that same welcoming space at the Capitol, reminding young Californians that caring about what happens in our state and country is a shared, everyday responsibility.

Inspiring Speakers & Remarks: Celebrating youth leadership, civic action, and community resilience.

The Megaphone Installation: A giant interactive megaphone booth where youth can take selfies and record video reflections responding to civic prompts.

Community Resource Fair & Interactive Activities: Connecting youth directly with impactful organizations and opportunities across California.

Civil Rights History Art Installation: An interactive exhibit featuring a vintage telephone booth where attendees can listen to historic audio and record their own reflections.

Live Music, Art & Expression: Bringing people together to build connections and celebrate community culture.
