Did you know Sacramento was California's fourth capital?
The legislature met in San Jose in 1850 and 1851, moved to Vallejo in 1852, then to Benicia in 1853. In 1852 Sacramento offered the state its county courthouse to house the legislature, and in 1854 it became the permanent capital. The capital has not moved since.
