Color the Block Community Garden & Family Engagement Program

Join Color the Block and cultivate stronger communities through gardening, learning, and meaningful connections! The community gardens are vibrant spaces where families, neighbors, and volunteers come together to promote green living, environmental sustainability, and community wellness.

Participants help plant, nurture, and harvest flowers and vegetables while building lasting relationships with one another. Children and families can enjoy interactive storytime, books, arts and sensory activities, hands-on play, and opportunities to explore and learn together.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to connect with one another, discover fun educational activities to continue at home, and learn about additional family events and resources available throughout the year.

The programs are designed to support children’s social and emotional development, early literacy and language skills, motor skill development, confidence, and natural curiosity through engaging, hands-on experiences. While many of the activities are centered around children ages 5 and under, they warmly welcome families with children of all ages to participate.

Community members are also invited to volunteer by sharing their time and talents through our garden clubs, educational workshops, leadership cohorts, and community service opportunities that empower youth and strengthen neighborhoods. Join them every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at either Fruitridge Collaborative, 4625 44th Street, Sacramento, CA 95820, and/or Rainbow Mini Park, 6121 Martin Luther King Jr.
