World Music: Wenying Silk & Bamboo Collective

Wenying Silk & Bamboo Collective is a Sacramento-based cross-cultural music initiative dedicated to building artistic dialogue between Chinese and Western musical traditions through performance, education, and creative collaboration. Rooted in the expressive world of traditional Chinese instruments—including dizi, xiao, yangqin, and other silk-and-bamboo instruments—the collective seeks to introduce American audiences to the beauty, emotional depth, and cultural richness of Chinese music, while also exploring new possibilities for intercultural musical expression.

We believe music is a living language—one that transcends geography, history, and cultural boundaries. Through this spirit, the collective embraces both preservation and innovation: honoring traditional Chinese repertoire while re-imagining Western classical, folk, and contemporary works through the voices of Chinese instruments.

Based in Northern California, the collective aspires to become a platform where traditions meet, cultures converse, and music becomes a bridge between world.
